Beginners Plus
3-weeks (9 days) 1.5 hrs per day
This class is a follow-up to the Beginners class. In this class we will dive deeper into more advanced beginner concepts. Designed for people who have a basic understanding of the value and basic concepts of Bitcoin, as outlined in the Beginners Class.
The Beginners Plus class will dive deeper into questions and concepts like: What is a Bitcoin wallet and how to buy Bitcoin for self-custody? What’s the difference between a custodial wallet, a self-custody wallet, and an ETF? What’s a cold wallet vs a hot wallet? How does Bitcoin mining work? What is a blockchain and how do confirmations and nodes work? What’s a fork, and how do protocol updates work? What are the fees, and who do they go to? What is the lightning network and what is a “layer 2”? What is the “halvening” and liquidity cycles and why is the price of bitcoin so wild? How does the US government banking system work and how does that relate to Bitcoin? Who created Bitcoin and why? What is cryptography? What is “tokenization” and how will blockchains affect future industries? What are “stablecoins” and “digital assets”, or even “cryptocurrencies?” Who controls Bitcoin? How exactly is Bitcoin decentralized and can governments or other entities control it? Is Bitcoin anonymous like cash? How do I pay NC and Federal taxes on self-custody Bitcoin? What is a Bitcoin Treasury Company, and why are so many big corporations like Strategy buying Bitcoin? Are quantum computers a threat to Bitcoin? There will be an entire lesson dedicated to teaching wallet security, with a hands-on demonstration of setting up and securing a self-custody wallet.
My goal with this class is to provide students with advanced basic knowledge of Bitcoin and a deeper understanding of the inner workings of Bitcoin’s revolutionary blockchain technology. By the end of the class, students should reflect a deeper understanding of Bitcoin’s mechanics with enough knowledge to perform an on-chain bitcoin transaction, safely self-custody a wallet, and set-up and use a lightning wallet.
