About

My Name is Ken Ames.

I came to Bitcoin through political philosophy early in 2009. Studying this pulled me into economics — Rothbard, Mises, Hayek, Friedman — and those guys eventually pointed me toward Bitcoin, even though most of them were writing about gold long before bitcoin existed.

You'd think that having studied economics early when Bitcoin was first being created would've made me an early believer. It didn't. I called Bitcoin stupid the first time I heard about it. A scam. I wrote it off, more than once, over a span of years. And when I finally came around and put my money in, sometime around 2015, I bought the top — and then watched it crash almost 90% for the next several years.

What kept me from panicking and selling wasn't optimism. It was that, by then, I actually understood why I owned it. The political philosophy and the economics had given me a reason to hold that had nothing to do with the price. So I held, and I bought more.

That's the whole reason Apex Bitcoin Academy exists. I'm not here to sell you on a price or hand you a prediction. I'm here to give beginners the understanding I had to build the slow, painful way — what money really is, why the system works against most people, and how to think about Bitcoin clearly enough to decide for yourself. Plain English, in person, starting from zero.

I dismissed this thing for years before I understood it. If you're skeptical, you're in good company — I was too.
